Paper Experiments
I've previously done some small trials and looked at paper engineering, view this here. I wanted to experiments more with layers and go back to the mountain I made from the old french map, view this here.
Firstly I looked at different ways they could be layered.
Firstly I looked at different ways they could be layered.
Ex.1- front layers are shorter than those behind.
Ex.2- front layers are wider than those behind leading the background mountains to become more arrow like.
Ex.3 A range of different fold widths.
Ex. 3.5- The top half of the last experiment. Thinner cuts make for lower mountains and even the idea of hills.
Ex.4- Another testing a range of different fold widths.
Ex.5- This follows an idea to have the paper coming down from the 'body' of a mountain (either in some sort of stone, clay or card) as seen bellow.
Ex.6- Experimenting with a spiral cut after having the idea that a potential artist book might be suspended from the ceiling. This cut was either too close together or the paper was too light so the spirals are very far apart.
Ex.6- The structure has to be elevated very far from the ground for all the spirals to unwind.
Ex.7- Trial with card and different widths. The wider cut spirals stay closer together.
Ex.7- The closer cut spirals leave a larger gap in between each other.
Ex.7- Here you can see the difference in widths between each layer. The card made a slight difference to the paper but it was mostly in the width of cut.
I'm still not sure if this is the rout I want to take so I am going to look into some of the key words I have picked up during my research to see where they take me. Next post will look into the sublime.
