Getting to Grips With The Sublime
I've gone back to Youtube to try and get some ideas as I am stuck.
I typed Sublime in and found two new useful videos.
Some key notes from this video:
Insignificant
Oppressive
Perspective
Life's problems are minor
Egoism becomes less/non existent
You choose to feel that way (choose to feel the emotion of the sublime)
Religion.
We want to meet with the sublime in a frequent way so we can be made to feel small
My work should make people feel small, in a good way.

Key notes from this video:
Connected/ Disconnected
Representation
Ungraspable
OVERWHELMING
Jaw drop- relief
More terror than elation
Transcendent
Contest Light and Dark
Fragility of man
Light- hope and faith
Desire to destroy beauty
Colour could be the subject
Panting large- you are in it. painting slows thins down.
Cosmos
We are small- Forces of nature
Enjoyment/ terror
Sensation of falling
Make people feel with their eyes
Breaking free of the modern world (no/ little digital techniques)
Objective reality
Reveals the limitation to put our minds around it.
See beyond what is before our eyes.
Notes:
The second video was made by Steven DaLuz and it also features some of his paintings. I found these representations to be helpful in understanding the sublime and want to look into his work further.
This is a link to his Non-Figurative Work, click here.
I like how this work suggests the subject or maybe the forms within the paintings are second to the contrasting colours and light. They draw you in and the strong contrast is overwhelming. Maybe this is the sort of thing I should be focusing on.
