Distance & Delightful Terror

I am now in the process of deciding what my artist books are going to look like/be.

I have decided that one book should be based on Distance. It will look something like the image bellow.

Why distance?

To experience the sublime, distance between the subject, us, and the object, the mountain, is key. The object which might invoke the feeling of terror when we think of being close to it or in it, it surrounding us, turns into the sublime when distance is put between us and it. I believe through my research that this is because the fear of danger is removed through this distance.

I started to think about this when reading The Sublime Object of Psychiatry (p.27). There where some other words that stood out to me such as:

Infinite
Eternal
Un-graspable
Temporal Suspension

I will use these somewhere but I am leaving them for now.

For this book, I need to work out how I want to bind it as the sketch above is how it will be presented.

Delightful Terror- Book 2

I am not 100% sure about this book yet. I was originally thinking about doing one solely on terror but I think it might be good to combine terror and delight as it would create that key contrast that makes the sublime.

I have done a substantial about of research but just to get my head around these I am going to look at some more imagery to do with both.

Some image returns for terror & mountains:
