Revised Plans

The pages bellow explain why I have changed the plan for my project from my idea of creating a series of artist books.

So yes, if you have taken the time to read my skate hand writing, you will now know that I intend to create a large scale painting instead of the three artist books.

So now I need to work out how to put all the elements that I have looked at that make up the sublime into one large piece.

In the previous post I had fond how some of Rothko's and Malevich's work related to the sublime. These aren't the sort of art I have been interested in before but after reading about them, I can clearly see the link to the sublime, in particularly with Rothko's piece.

Mark Rothko 'Red on Maroon' 1959

Kazimir Malevich 'Black Square' 1915
Kasimir Malevich, Bale Square, 1915

In a contrasting but similar way to Rothko's painting, I have looked at the idea of the calm or delightful where the images I made where simplistic yet invoked an emotion. Rothko's work of course is far more overbearing and is a little frustrating to look at with it's dark tones.

These pieces are making me think about how I could combine a range of emotions in my work. Instead of having something that is overwhelming because of it's complexity, it could have elements both of complexity and minimalism which would create and even bigger contrast.

I will need to experiment with these ideas further.
