Personal Work Update 3
I have decided that I will be doing one whole "globe" instead of separate sections. This I believe will allow the panoramic painting of the mountains flow a lot better, making the elements that make up the sublime intertwine and merge.
I decided that the best way to do this would be on the mod rock plaster cast (seen in previous post, here).
I did a lot of tests with this to see what the best way to create an image. I used some of the segments I had to test out a few things. In the image bellow, I first filled in any holes with plaster filler then sanded it down. i then covered in Gesso and sanded again. I then painted it in with acrylic. I tested out paint onto of this surface as well as pasting a part of the original mono print that I had done previously. I think worked both well but I didn't like ow the mono print folded a bit. I also liked the idea of actual painting inside the globe, really being in it.
Below are the tests I did with the dried letter press pints pasted onto the outside of a section. I wanted to see how the shine would look. I won't be doing this, I prefer that the surface has a shine but the lettering be more matt, seen here.
With the main structure of the "globe" I will be following a process of strengthening the mod rock. I will be doing this by first filling in any holes with plaster, then covering both the other and the inner surface with plaster. This will then be sanded and painted over with Gesso, two cotes. This will then be sanded and painted over with white acrylic ready to be painted.
Bellow are some tests I did exploring how I could actually paint the "panoramic". These are not all the experiments but the pinnacle changing points. I was trying to work out how to get both power and terror across but also bringing in the feeling of delight.
In the first painting delight is focused not he floor on the image, however I thought that this created too much of a divide. I experimented next with a few more colours and in the way that delight was painted, with more fluid brush strokes. This I thought worked int he way it was painted but it still wast there. I also thought the sky was not doing anything for the painting.
After a to of testing I realised that delight could be focused in the sky. The bottom sketchbook painting shows this and this is how I will be approaching my painting within my "globe".
