Personal Work Update- The Final Update

Here is the last update before I finish off this piece.

After having covered the mod-rock structure in plaster and filling in any extra gaps, I sanded down the whole thing, inside and out. I then painted two layers of Gesso which I then sounded down to make sure there where no bumps.

I stopped the outside black before moving to the inside. The progress can be seen bellow.

Painting the inside started with the sky which represented the delight. The development of this can be seen in the previous post (here). This took quite a long time as it was a process of mixing colours and blending blue, pink and yellow.

I then started by doing the mountains representing terror which where to be in the background. I do not want to show to much of the interior at this point but there is a short video bellow that takes you inside.

When all the painting was complete, it was time to varnish. This was both to create contrast and vibrancy to the colours within the "globe" as well as to protect it. I also wanted to create more of a gloss to the outside of the 'globe".

After one layer of varnish to the outside, I wrote about the sublime and the mountains in Posca Pen, creating a contrast between gloss and matt. I then varnished over this which made less fo a contrast, which is what I was looking for. I wanted there to be detail but for it not the be obvious and detract from the inside. My camera does not show it very well, but the writing was still visible when under a particular light or from a particular angle.

How to Hang?

Still figuring this out. I have experimented with the "basket" idea, creating it curly out of fishing wire to hold it but with not much luck.
I have had another idea fo having hooks around the bottom, maybe cushioned with some rubber and then attached to the wire. I had a look in a few places for some for of hook that might be suitable but I am still unsure and am going to keep looking.

I've also had a look on the B&Q website and found some that might be good:

This Black Rubber Matt could be good to make the metal stick.

How to light?

After looking around, I have decided that a light source places within the "globe" in the form of a battery powered light would be better than drilling a hole through the top. This is because I don't want to compromise the strength of the structure swell as mess around with the acoustics that happen within the globe. The shut out of outside sounds and the weird, "underwater" effect is something I think adds tremendously to the experience. Having a hole in the top might also let in outside sources of light which might play differently on the glossy interior surface.
